The OpenStack Ops Meetup has become a cornerstone event for the OpenStack community, serving as a vital hub for operators, engineers, and contributors to come together, share knowledge, and collaborate on the complexities of managing and deploying OpenStack environments. As the open-source cloud platform continues to evolve, the Ops Meetup remains a key platform for discussing real-world challenges, exploring cutting-edge solutions, and fostering relationships within the OpenStack ecosystem.

The Origins of the OpenStack Ops Meetup

The OpenStack Ops Meetup was born out of the need for operators to have a dedicated space to share their experiences, troubleshoot issues, and discuss best practices. In the early days of OpenStack, the community was rapidly growing, and while developers were driving the software’s features and capabilities, operators were often left to figure out how to deploy, scale, and maintain OpenStack environments effectively.

Recognizing the value of sharing knowledge among operators, the OpenStack Ops Meetup became a regular gathering point. The meetup provided a platform for those managing large-scale OpenStack deployments to collaborate, exchange ideas, and discuss common pain points. Meetups were held in Philadelphia, New York, London, Mexico City, Tokyo and Berlin amongst others.

The OpenStack Ops meetup, like many other communities, felt the impact of the pandemic. Now, as we move forward, we’re revisiting how to refocus the group for a productive future. The topics continue to evolve as OpenStack itself progresses, but our core mission remains unchanged: helping operators optimize and troubleshoot their OpenStack deployments, exchange insights into best practices and tools and provide real-word, at-scale feedback to the OpenStack project. We’re excited to reignite the energy of our group and continue to provide valuable insights for the future of OpenStack.

Topics evolve as OpenStack itself evolves, but the core mission remains the same: helping operators optimize and troubleshoot their OpenStack deployments.
